I like falafel. I also like using my waffle iron for more than just making breakfast waffles. I saw a Cooking Channel short video in the “You’re Eating it Wrong” series where the host, Dan Pashman, makes falafel using a waffle iron. I subsequently found a recipe on the Food Network website and tried it out. The recipe for the waffled falafel comes courtesy of the Food Network Kitchens and can be found here. Dan Pashman’s Cooking Channel TV video about waffled falafel can be viewed here.
Aside from the brownish, greenish appearance, the finished product doesn’t really look all that much like traditional falafel. It does, however, taste just as good or better than other falafel I’ve had at restaurants. It has that same crumbly texture and fresh, garlicky taste, but tastes a bit lighter. Part of this is probably due to the cooking method, as traditional falafels are either deep or pan fried. I would definitely make this again, especially as a part of a larger meal.
